The focus and goals of my clinical practice:

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Ph.D., MFT Lic.#MFCC12862) who has offered psychotherapy, counseling and consultation in the San Francisco Bay area since 1978.  In essence, my clinical practice is centered on the issues of personal survival and development.  My goals are:

  • to help those who wish to resolve problems and emotional distress.
  • to help those seeking deeper meaning and understanding in their lives.

Attention to your unique needs:

It’s not uncommon to begin therapy in response to a serious personal or relationship problem that requires professional attention.  Sometimes the work begins at the level of problem definition.  When that’s the case, we sort things out together, arriving at a clear description of the problem.  We then consider possible options that might effectively address the situation.  Finally with support, you choose among viable options and set about making effective changes.  Identification and resolution of the problem may signal success and lead to completion of treatment.   Sometimes however, people wish to consider life and relationships from a broader perspective.  Some of my clients initially focus on immediate concerns and gradually shift toward personal growth while others focus on growth and development at the outset of treatment.  The choice is yours.

My therapeutic style:

My style of psychotherapy emphasizes interpersonal interactions, dynamic insight, and cognitive change.  I help people to understand their difficulties in present relationships; to understand the origins of their issues and concerns and to change troublesome thoughts, feelings and/or patterns of behavior by considering and practicing alternative ways of relating to the people, places and things that cause distress.  I utilize individual, couple, family and group therapy toward these goals.
