Biography
Lawrence S. Peltz, Ph.D., MFT, M.S., M.Ed.
Dr. Lawrence Peltz is a licensed clinician
(Marriage, Family and Child Therapist), author, consultant and educator
whose training and experience encompass the realms of psychotherapy
(Ph.D., Family Psychology; California Graduate School of Psychology),
education (M.Ed; University of Hawaii), and business systems (M.S.,
University of Southern California).
His prior clinical experience includes employment
as the Director of Drug and Alcohol Outpatient Treatment in federal
service at Tripler Army Medical Center during the Vietnam era; Clinical
Directorship of the California Graduate School of Family Psychology
doctoral program’s treatment clinic and twenty two years in private
clinical practice in Marin and Sonoma counties, California.
Long-standing interests that remain current
include support and treatment for individuals and families suffering from
the full range of addictions; group psychotherapy for various populations
and counseling/psychotherapy for gifted students in the
expressive/performing arts.
Dr. Peltz has taught graduate level courses in
Group Psychotherapy and Intensive Family Therapy; enjoying the role of
supervisor and mentor to numerous graduate students.
Early in his career, professional interest led
him to participate in the delivery and development of effective clinical
teaching models. Among these is the use of one way mirror and audio
telecommunication technology to facilitate live feedback and supervision
for therapists in training as they work with patients. In addition
to teaching responsibilities in this setting, Dr. Peltz investigated the
effects of demonstrated instructor levels of various helping conditions
upon student therapist behavior with patients.
Responding to a desire to be of service to a
wider population, he assumed responsibilities as the principal author of
several PsyJourn, Incorporated multimedia software modules: Military Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Adult Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
and Depression. Dr. Peltz also co-authored Anxiety and Phobias and Alcohol
and Drugs (Chemical Dependency) modules. These programs, utilizing state
of the art technology, are designed for use by patients to support and
extend the benefits of their ongoing psychotherapy.

In addition to his involvement in psychotherapy,
education and research, Dr. Peltz has a long history as a consultant to
businesses and military organizations. His unique focus of attention to
the personal developmental histories of employees and managers as they
impact upon present performance and relationships has been the subject of
a column in the Small Business Section of The Wall Street Journal.
The article noted his effective application of family systems and systems
management theory to a range of difficulties emerging in the workplace.
Dr. Peltz’s focus of attention on the resolution of conflict that
originated in workers’, managers’ and business partners' families of
origin, often enables the consideration and implementation of solutions
that would have otherwise been undisclosed.
Dr. Peltz was born and raised in Brooklyn, New
York. Prior to moving to California, he lived on the island of Oahu in
Hawaii, which he considered to be the most beautiful place on the face of
the planet before moving to Northern California. He currently resides in
Santa Rosa, California with his wife Cathy . His adult
children include daughter Jennifer and sons Aaron and Cory. Grandson Shelby is the
latest blessed family addition.
